Moxi® Laser: What to Expect, Downtime, and Before & After Results
Moxi is one of the most popular skin treatments for refreshing your complexion, correcting early sun damage, and reducing signs of aging. One of the most common questions we get is: “What should I expect during a Moxi laser treatment?” Let’s walk through the process, downtime, and results including what kind of before-and-after transformation you can expect.
What Does the Moxi Laser Do?
Moxi is a non-ablative fractional laser designed to:
- Correct uneven tone and pigmentation
- Improve skin texture and brightness
- Reduce fine lines and wrinkles
- Provide a refreshed glow with little downtime
It’s sometimes called a “prejuvenation” laser, because it’s not just for correction it also helps prevent visible signs of aging before they appear.
How Many Moxi Treatments Do You Need?
Most patients notice an improvement after just one Moxi treatment. For best results, we recommend a series of 3-4 treatments spaced a few weeks apart to achieve optimal results. Once your skin has improved, seasonal or yearly maintenance treatments help sustain your glow long-term.
What to Expect During a Moxi Treatment
Knowing what happens during a Moxi session can ease any nerves you may have before your first appointment. Here’s what to expect:
Consultation
Your Moxi journey begins with a consultation with one of our Master Estheticians, who will evaluate your skin and customize your treatment plan.
Preparation
On treatment day, your skin will be cleansed, and a topical numbing cream will be applied to assist with your comfort. Progress photos may also be taken.
Treatment and Duration
During your treatment, your esthetician will use a handheld device with a fresh, single-use tip for every client, so it’s completely clean and safe. The device also provides feedback as it moves across your skin, helping your esthetician keep the treatment consistent and effective.
The Moxi handpiece delivers gentle fractionated laser energy into the skin, stimulating cell turnover and collagen. Treatments typically take 15–30 minutes depending on the area.
Aftercare and Downtime
Following your Moxi treatment, you can expect your skin to feel warm and appear red for up to 24 hours post treatment, similar to a mild sunburn. The initial heat typically subsides within about two hours, leaving the skin feeling sensitive rather than hot.
Over the next 24 hours, redness is common, and tiny microdots may begin to appear on the skin. These are called MENDs (microscopic epithelial necrotic debris) and are a normal part of the skin’s renewal process. As the MENDs form, your skin will develop a slightly rough, sandpaper-like texture that usually lasts 5–7 days.
During this time, it’s best to avoid makeup for at least the first 24 hours and use only gentle skincare products and sunscreen. Once the MENDs naturally shed, fresh, smooth, and radiant skin is revealed.
How Long Does It Take to See Moxi Results?
- Immediately after treatment: Skin often looks brighter within days.
- 1–2 Weeks: Texture and pigmentation continue to improve.
- After 3 Treatments: Significant improvements in tone, texture, and collagen.
- Maintenance: One or two sessions per year help maintain results

Moxi Laser FAQs
Is Moxi painful?

Skin will feel very warm or hot for up to 2 hours after treatment.
How much downtime does Moxi require?
Expect 24-48 hours of redness and 5-7 days of rough texture as your skin renews. It’s best to avoid makeup for the first 24 hours and only use gentle skincare products.
Is Moxi safe for all skin types?
Yes, Moxi is safe for all skin types and is especially popular with patients in their 20s–40s looking for prejuvenation.
